ORF-Enterprise adds upcoming Portuguese murder mystery Jones to slate

Austrian distributor ORF-Enterprise has picked up the international sales rights to upcoming Portuguese mystery crime drama Jones.

Created and directed by Bruno Gascon, who said the series is inspired by Agatha Christie, Jones is being produced by Caracol Studios and will air on Portuguese public broadcaster RTP. Filming is scheduled for later this year.

British actor Amanda Abbington, best known for BBC One’s “Sherlock” and ITV Studios’ “Mr. Selfridge,” has joined “Jones,” a mystery drama produced by Caracol Studios for Portuguese pubcaster RTP.

In the six-part TV drama, Abbington plays Eve, a sharp-witted, slightly off-kilter actress drawn into an investigation led by Oliver Jones, played by Portuguese thesp José Pimentão (Netflix’s “1899”), a detective with the unnerving gift of speaking to the dead.

After a murder at a lavish family gathering in Sintra, Jones teams with the victim, Júlia (Laura Dutra, of RTP’s “Irreversível”), to crack the case amid a maze of secrets, lies and spectral clues. 

The ensemble cast also features Ivo Canelas, Rui Morrison, Raquel Rocha Vieira, Rafael Morais, Paula de Magalhães, Afonso Lagarto, Margarida Moreira and Sílvia Chiola.

A série acompanha uma família que se reúne numa quinta luxuosa, em Sintra, para uma festa de noivado. Quando tudo parecia perfeito, eis que ocorre um homicídio no final da noite. Para resolver o caso é chamado o inspetor Jones (José Pimentão), que, apesar de ninguém saber, tem um dom: fala com os mortos. Este dom tanto pode facilitar como complicar o seu trabalho, especialmente quando Júlia (Laura Dutra), a sarcástica e brilhante vítima, se junta a ele para descobrir quem foi, afinal, o seu assassino.

 

Filmada em diversos locais do país, incluindo Vila Nova de Foz Côa e Sintra.
